Occasionally, the white beans are replaced by <a href=\"https:\/\/bistrobadia.de\/en\/legumes\/\">fava beans<\/a>, which are also very popular on the island.<\/p>\n\n<p>If you are looking for a warming soup for cold days or want to conjure up a quick after-work dish, then be sure to try this fasolada recipe.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-was-ist-fasolada\">What is fasolada?<\/h2>\n\n<p>Fasolada is a <strong>bean soup<\/strong> that is very similar to the Lebanese stew <a href=\"https:\/\/bistrobadia.de\/en\/fasolia-bean-stew\/\">fasolia<\/a>. However, the two dishes differ in their consistency and ingredients such as <strong>vegetables<\/strong>, <strong>herbs<\/strong> and <strong>spices<\/strong>. Occasionally, the Cypriot version is also prepared with fava beans.<\/p>\n\n<p>White bean soup with vegetables is one of the national dishes of the Mediterranean island and has its origins in <strong>ancient Greece<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-die-geschichte-der-bohnensuppe\">The history of bean soup<\/h2>\n\n<p>According to legend, <strong>Theseus<\/strong> (King of Athens) set off for Crete to kill the Minotaur. On the way there, he made a stop on the island of Delos. There he promised the god <strong>Apollo<\/strong> a sacrifice of thanks if he returned victorious from his journey.<\/p>\n\n<p>Theseus defeated the Minotaur. When he returned to Delos, he had not eaten for <strong>7 days<\/strong>. A <strong>soup<\/strong> was cooked for him with the ingredients that could be found: <strong>Beans<\/strong> and <strong>vegetables<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p>Zu Ehren Apollos wurde ein Fest gefeiert, das <strong>Pyanopsia-Fest<\/strong>. Als Opfergabe wurde ihm eine Bohnensuppe gereicht, die Theseus nach seiner siegreichen R\u00fcckreise verzehrte. \u00dcbersetzt bedeutet das Pynopsia-Fest wohl so viel wie: <strong>Fest der Bohne<\/strong> oder <strong>Bohnenkochen<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ist-die-zyprische-suppe-gesund\">Is Cypriot soup healthy?<\/h2>\n\n<p>Bean soup contains lots of <strong>protein<\/strong> and <strong>fiber<\/strong>. It is also <strong>vegan<\/strong> and <strong>gluten-free<\/strong> and therefore well tolerated. If you follow the <strong>Mediterranean diet<\/strong>, fasolada is a suitable meal for the whole family.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-wie-wird-die-bohnensuppe-zubereitet\">How is the bean soup prepared?<\/h2>\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Beans: are soaked in water for approx. 12 hours. They are then cooked until al dente, set aside and added to the soup again later.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Onions and garlic: are peeled, chopped and fried.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Carrots and celery: cut into slices and saut\u00e9.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tomatoes: are diced and added to the saut\u00e9ed vegetables.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Spices: are added to the pot after frying.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Then fill everything up with water, add the beans again and simmer for a few minutes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Finally, season to taste and garnish with fresh parsley.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-wie-lange-ist-das-bohnengericht-haltbar\">What is the shelf life of the bean dish?<\/h2>\n\n<p>You haven&#8217;t eaten everything? You can then store the white bean soup well wrapped in the fridge for <strong>2-3 days<\/strong>. Or you can make a little more straight away, because fasolada is fantastic as a <strong>meal prep<\/strong> that you can prepare <strong>quickly<\/strong> and <strong>easily<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-fasolada-rezept-tipps\">Fasolada recipe tips<\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you <strong>don&#8217;t<\/strong> want <strong>to<\/strong> use dried beans because you don&#8217;t have the time, you can simply use <strong>canned<\/strong> or jarred white beans. This will reduce the cooking time by <strong>20-30 minutes<\/strong> and your soup will be ready in no time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use a high-quality <strong>olive oil<\/strong> for cooking, as this is very important for this soup.
