Whether as a <a href=\"https:\/\/bistrobadia.de\/en\/category\/mezze-rezepte\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mezze<\/a> or main course, served with hummus, tahini sauce or in flatbread &#8211; the <strong>fava bean balls<\/strong> have a fantastic interplay of flavors thanks to their many fresh ingredients. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-are-egyptian-falafel-made-from\">What are Egyptian falafel made from?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ta&#8217;amia<\/strong>, <strong>Ta&#8217;ameya<\/strong> or <strong>Tamija<\/strong> &#8211; the Egyptian falafel has different spellings and ingredients.\nIt is considered to be the first, <strong>original<\/strong> falafel and, unlike the <a href=\"https:\/\/bistrobadia.de\/en\/falafel-authentic-recipe\/\">traditional falafel<\/a> as I know it, is made with fava beans instead of chickpeas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But which falafel came <strong>first<\/strong>?\nThe Egyptian or the Lebanese?\nThat&#8217;s probably a question that will be debated forever.\nJust like the kebab question &#8211; Otherwise, the Ta&#8217;ameya mixture may become too liquid and mushy. --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 819\/1024;\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-tips-amp-tricks-for-particularly-tasty-balls\">Tips &amp; tricks for particularly tasty balls<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use baking powder, as it ensures that the texture inside is soft and airy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Before shaping the Ta&#8217;ameya, dip your fingers in <strong>oil<\/strong> or <strong>water<\/strong>. This prevents the dough from sticking to your hands and makes it easier to shape the balls. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can also use a <strong>falafel shaper<\/strong>, <strong>ice cream scoop<\/strong> or large <strong>spoon<\/strong> for shaping.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Only add the <strong>leaves<\/strong> or thin stems of the herbs to the batter. The thick <strong>stems<\/strong> contain a lot of water, which can make the mixture soggy and the Ta&#8217;ameya may fall apart during frying. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the dough is too moist, <strong>leave<\/strong> it to <strong>stand<\/strong> for a few minutes to allow it to rise a little.\nOr you can <strong>drain<\/strong> the mixture in a sieve. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Taste the dough before shaping.\nDepending on your taste, you can <strong>add<\/strong> a little <strong>more seasoning<\/strong>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Do not<\/strong> fry too many balls at once, otherwise the fat will cool down and the batter will soak up the fat.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you have some Ta&#8217;ameya dough left over, put it in a freezer bag, press it flat and put it in the freezer. It will keep there for up to <strong>3 months<\/strong>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>However, you can also prepare the dough and bake it later.\nThe mixture can be kept covered in the fridge <strong>for<\/strong> approx. <strong>4 days<\/strong>. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-goes-well-with-the-crispy-balls\">What goes well with the crispy balls?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I served the fava bean balls with creamy <a href=\"https:\/\/bistrobadia.de\/en\/hummus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hummus<\/a> and a nutty <a href=\"https:\/\/bistrobadia.de\/en\/tahini-sauce-basic-recipe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tahini sauce<\/a>.
