Air Fryer Shakshuka
Air fryer Shakshuka? Oh yes! Because you can also prepare poached eggs in tomato sauce super easily in the air fryer. The air fryer is now the appliance for everything! And I have to say, I’ve also become a big fan. You only use one appliance and not several, and afterwards you can put all the parts in the dishwasher.
Shakshuka – Breakfast at the weekend
I don’t really have breakfast during the week. Sometimes I have some fruit and definitely a coffee. Of course, that’s not very exemplary, but I make up for it with a hearty breakfast at the weekend. And eggs are a must, of course.
I enjoy the luxury of always having a few market stalls nearby at the weekend where I can buy fresh ingredients for the Air fryer Shakshuka.
Fresh produce is important to me and I prefer it to be seasonal and regional. For this recipe, put the following ingredients in your shopping basket:
- white onion – a red one will also work if you prefer it a little milder
- Garlic – I like to use fresh garlic because it doesn’t bite as much
- Red peppers
- Medium hot chili – or depending on how hot you like it
- best olive oil
- fresh organic eggs
- chopped canned tomatoes – you can also use fresh tomatoes and chop them with a grater or food processor
- best cinnamon
- Paprika powder – sweet, because we already have spiciness
- and a pinch of sugar to balance the acidity
Preparing shakshuka in the air fryer
The practical thing about shakshuka from the air fryer is that you simply put everything in the fryer basket and can then use the time to prepare the breakfast table, for example, or even take a quick shower.
Because you don’t have to stand next to the pan to stir from time to time. In this recipe, everything simply goes straight into the Air Fryer. Then press the start button and let the machine do its work. However, you have to do the chopping yourself, although you could leave that to the food processor.
Quick guide to preparation:
- Finely chop the onion, garlic, bell pepper and chili.
- Mix the chopped vegetables, chopped tomatoes and spices in a heatproof bowl or the air fryer bowl and bake in the air fryer at 200°C for 25 minutes.
- Use a spoon to press small indentations into the shakshuka, add the eggs and bake in the air fryer for a further 5-7 minutes. If the egg whites do not set properly, it helps to loosen and spread them a little with a fork.
- Remove the shakshuka from the air fryer, sprinkle with parsley and serve.
Helpful tips for preparation
Some air fryers have accessories with molds and bowls for insertion. I don’t have one, so I just used a small casserole dish. That also worked out well.
For the perfect eggs, I recommend you check halfway through the cooking time, because every Air Fryer is different – sometimes it goes faster, sometimes slower. Mine, for example, only heats from above – others also heat from below.
Soooo… now you have all the important information you need to get started! I hope you have fun preparing it and, of course, bon appétit.
