Falafel side dish – what goes well with falafel?

What can you eat with falafel? I will be happy to answer this question. The falafel side dish can vary. Because there are so many options for what you can eat with falafel. Depending on whether you want to enjoy the chickpea balls as a side or main component of your dish.

Falafel – what goes with it

To find out what you can eat with falafel, you should of course first know what falafel is. Falafel are crispy balls fried in fat and made from chickpeas, fresh herbs and aromatic spices. Make them according to my family’s original falafel recipe – then you can also freeze some in advance!

While you’re deep-frying falafel, add cauliflower , eggplant and zucchini to the hot fat. Because you can add it to hummus, toum and falafel in a wrap.

Would you like roasted vegetables to go with the falafel? Then make the oven vegetables from the tray. Halloumi is also included and makes the dish a squeaky delight. It goes well with a fresh and creamy tzatziki.

The creamy sesame sauce is also a classic Levantine recipe. You only need a few ingredients to prepare the sauce. Tahini, lemon, garlic, parsley, salt and water make a quick and easy, creamy and nutty sauce in no time at all. It definitely belongs in the falafel wrap, but also goes perfectly with falafel on its own.

Amba – fiery and fruity mango sauce

Levantine mango sauce is actually made from fermented mangoes. Unfortunately, they are not available everywhere, which is why you can use simple supermarket mangoes. Chilli is added to the fruity sauce to give it a spicy note. With its diverse flavors, it goes well with falafel and wraps.

Toum – spicy garlic cream

The vegan garlic mayo is the equivalent of the Spanish aioli. With just 4 ingredients, you can prepare it in 5 minutes using a hand blender. For an extra garlic kick, you can roast the garlic bulb in the oven beforehand. This makes the garlic cream even more aromatic and harmonizes perfectly with falafel.

Another traditional falafel side dish, which is usually part of a mezze, is the fresh and fruity tomato sauce with mint.

Baba Ghanoush – mashed eggplant

The vegan eggplant cream is made from eggplant that has been roasted over an open fire. The roasted flavors are essential for this vegetable dish. Refined with lemon, garlic and tahini, you can dip your falafel straight into the chunky dip.
